,KUALA LUMPUR: The FBM KLCI managed to settle with marginal gains on Wednesday, driven buying interest in selected index-related counters, as investors awaited the outcome of the U.S. Federal Reserve's policy meeting. The benchmark index FBM KLCI ended up 1.01 points, or 0.06% at 1,624.97. It opened 1.65 points higher at 1,625.61 this morning. On the broader market, gainers outnumbered losers by 625 to 513 while 440 counters unchanged. Trading volume stood at 12.66 billion shares worth RM4.77bil. Adding to the downbeat note, Asian equity ended mixed as investors awaited the outcome of the U.S. Federal Reserve's policy meeting for clues about interest rates. Japan’s Nikkei 225 closed down 0.02% at 29,914.33 while South Korea’s Kospi ended down 19.67 points, or 0.64%, at 3,047.50. China’s Shanghai Composite index was down 0.03% at 3,445.55, while the blue-chip CSI300 index was up 0.42% to 5,100.86. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was up 6.43 points, or 0.02%, at 29,034.12. Nestle, the top gainer on Bursa Malaysia jumped RM1.40 to RM137.10. British American Tobacco added 54 sen to RM13.18 and Panasonic Manufacturing gained 40 sen to RM30.80. Among the top losers, Toyo Ventures shed 32 sen to RM2.83, Carlsberg declined 30 sen to RM24.14 and Annum fell 20 sen to RM1.50. Maybank fell 10 sen to RM8.35, pushing the index lower by 1.76 points. Public Bank declined seven sen to RM4.24, dragging the index by 2.0952 points while Petronas Chemicals lost eight sen to RM8.17, nudging the index lower by 0.9869 points. Supermax rose 25 sen to RM4.35 while Telekom Malaysia added 24 sen to RM6.40. Meanwhile, oil prices climbed on Wednesday. Brent crude futures rose 28 cents to US$68.67 per barrel while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures rose 34 cents to US$65.14.
