Tuan Ibrahim hopes the perpetrator will apologise for dumping trash into the river. — SHAARI CHEMAT/The Star A viral video depicting a woman dumping trash into a river from her car has got the attention of Environment and Water Minister Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, who expressed disappointment over the act. Tuan Ibrahim in a statement on Facebook lamented that fact that while the ministry has launched numerous campaigns to protect our rivers, some members of society still do not care about keeping our water resources clean. “The perpetrator should feel remorse and hopefully apologises for displaying such inconsiderate behaviour,” Tuan Ibrahim said. He also thanked users who recorded the incident. A video shared by a user on Facebook has received over 6,800 comments and more than 27,000 shares with most leaving comments criticising the woman’s action. In the video, a car can be seen stopping at the side of a bridge to allow a woman to dump two plastic bags into the river. Meanwhile, Bernama reported that the Road Transport Department (JPJ) in Kelantan has taken action against the owner of the vehicle in the video by issuing a notice of investigation. It said that road users can be fined up to RM2,000 or jailed for a maximum period of six months for the offence of littering from their vehicle. Repeat offenders face a fine of up to RM4,000 or two months imprisonment or both.
