Major political parties in the country have been summoned to Istana Negara tomorrow following the resignation of Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister and the collapse of his Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.
Separate sources within four political parties confirmed with Malaysiakini that they have been called to Istana Negara for a meeting with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan verified that party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has been invited to the palace tomorrow evening.
An operative within Zahid's camp, speaking on condition of anonymity, also said his boss has received the invitation.
Similarly, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man confirmed his party president Abdul Hadi Awang has received an invitation from the palace as well.
A Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) source likewise said they were invited and party president Mukhriz Mahathir is expected to represent them.
A well-placed DAP source also confirmed the invitation.
DAP and Pejuang said their appointments are at 2pm.
Malaysiakini understands that Dewan Rakyat speaker Azhar Azizan Harun and and Dewan Negara president Rais Yatim will be included in the meeting.
A source close to Rais confirmed that the Dewan Negara president will be at Istana Negara tomorrow.
"The palace contacted Rais personally," he said.
The king had agreed to accept the resignation of Muhyiddin and his cabinet members today.
This came after the Pagoh MP lost majority support in the Dewan Rakyat, leading to the fall of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.
The Agong had also expressed that he was not in favour of conducting fresh elections now due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
So far, at the time of writing, there does not appear to be anyone who has enough support to become the new prime minister.Anwar welcomes Muhyiddin's resignation, Mat Sabu opens door to ex-Harapan MPsUmno, PAS and Bersatu hold special meetingsAzmin apologises for shortcomings, says many suffered due to pandemicCivil service will continue to run after PM's resignation - chief secMuhyiddin: Working with kleptos easy way out, I chose otherwiseForm unity govt since no one has majority - JohariIstana: Muhyiddin to serve as caretaker PM pending search for successorUmno state chiefs urge MPs, leaders to defend party decisionsMMA tells new govt not to take healthcare for grantedMat Sabu: Muhyiddin punished for his betrayalMuhyiddin 'failed' to protect Orang Asli, should resign - Cameron Highlands MPUmno Youth: Give us wartime unity cabinet headed by non-controversial individual'Rakyat won’t be fooled again' - Zahid tirade against PN dampens Ismail's bidMIC wants Zahid to back Ismail, says other Umno leaders won't have numbersZahid's Umno to convene on PM candidate as Ismail's bid ruffles feathers
