There have been no clusters of Covid-19 infections from the #Lawan demonstration in Kuala Lumpur on July 31, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.
He was responding to allegations on social media that at least one participant was infected.
"The health minister cannot confirm the veracity of this information.
"Investigations are ongoing but to date, there have been no reports of a cluster emerging from the demonstration," he told a press conference today.
The demonstration in the vicinity of Dataran Merdeka last month was to demand for Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's resignation, resumption of Parliament sittings and a six-month moratorium on repayment of banking and education loans.
Critics of the demonstrations have lambasted participants for endangering their health and wasting the efforts of medical frontliners, who are battling an ongoing and prolonged Covid-19 surge in the country.
However, some participants revealed that they, too, are medical frontliners, who are using their time off to join the demonstration.
Organisers estimated about 1,000 people turned up, but police capped the number at 400.
The participants, mostly youths, observed social distancing and wore masks and face shields.
Organiser Sekretariat Solidariti Rakyat (SSR) also issued a safety guideline, which includes encouraging participants to wear double masks or an N95 mask, gloves "for infection control" and hand sanitisers.
The organisers are also planning another demonstration on Aug 21.
Today, seven activists were investigated for sedition over their role in planning the upcoming demonstration.
